Pilates is a system of exercises first termed “Contrology” by Joe Pilates. He was an inventor, creator, genius of the human body and known to be an incredible athlete. Pilates was a sickly child. He suffered from Asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever and he dedicated his entire life to improving his physical strength. He was introduced by his father to gymnastics and body building and to martial arts like jiu-jitsu and boxing. By the age of 14, he was fit enough to pose for anatomical charts. Pilates came to believe that the “modern” lifestyle, bad posture and inefficient breathing lay at the roots of poor health.
The principle of Pilates are considered to be BREATH, FLOW, BALANCE, PRECISION, CONTROL, CONCENTRATION, CENTERING and POSTURE. Joe Pilates had 8 apprentices that carried on his work. Love Pilates & Training owner, Holly Thompson, is in Eve Gentry’s lineage.
Eve’s lineage passes on a rehabilitative approach to Joe’s work, due to Joe’s work with Eve in rehabilitating her from a radical double mastectomy surgery. My training with Virginia Nicholas and Michele Larson was focussed on pain reduction, neural re-education and the more rehabilitative side of the Pilates system, including work with scoliosis and spinal discomfort and nerve pain.
At Love Pilates & Training, your Pilates lessons are taught with a neuro-centric approach. All day every day we are communicating with our nervous system. Your lessons are customized for you and your nervous system on the day of your lesson and for your long and short-term fitness goals.
